A Message From Our President
Brothers, Since January 14th , 1932, the Houston Alumni Chapter of Sigma Chi has had a tradition of excellence like no other, with an esteemed nationwide reputation. It is my honor to have been elected, and now serving, as the Houston Alumni Chapter’s (HAC) new President for the 2025 and 2026 term years. It is with much enthusiasm that I get to help carry on this chapter’s legacy, to help grow its size and scope. Our records indicate that there are more than 7,000 Sigma Chi Alumni in the Greater Houston Area, with about 10% of those brothers interacting with the HAC on an annual basis. Those interactions are primarily through our monthly Luncheons on the 1st Tuesday of each month, monthly Happy Hours on the 3rd Thursday of each month, the HACs Annual Christmas Party, our shared Astros vs Rangers Lone Star Series baseball game (with the Dallas, Ft. Worth, and Mid-Cities Sigma Chi Alumni Chapters), or at the HACs Wild Game Dinner, which continues to host around 300 brothers during the 1st part of February each year and approaching it’s 80th anniversary.
The draw of Texas hospitality, and the oil and gas business in Houston, brings in brothers from all over the country. As a result, the HAC is fortunate to have our Texas college brothers, including the University of Houston (Go Coogs!), Texas A&M, University of Texas, Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston, Texas Tech, and Texas State, amongst others, plus brothers from other parts of the nation, who got to Houston “as fast as they could.” We all celebrate our shared commitments to Friendship, Justice, and Learning, as much as we appreciate our differences. The HAC reciprocates that hospitality in the form of our undergraduate chapter support for our Sigma Chi chapters in the Southeast Texas region for their Derby Days, golf tournaments, or other chapter events.
I do ask that you make your participation, as a Sigma Chi Alumni an active part of your life. Help to continue to grow our brotherhood, and I’ll commit to you that the HAC will provide outlets and events where our brotherhood can thrive and grow. It is my goal to include more ritual-centric events, introduce quality and informative speakers to our monthly Luncheons, continue welcoming our spouses and Sweethearts at our Happy Hour events, and to also become more of a presence in Houston’s philanthropic community.
Thanks for your past and ongoing support of the HAC and all of us together will ensure that the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and our alumni chapter, will be more honored by all men and women and more beloved and honestly respected by our own brothers.
In Hoc,
Ralph Coatsworth, IV
